Welcome

[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Fisenko, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Burgundavia 22:58, Apr 23, 2005 (UTC)

Signing your talk page entries

[edit]

I noticed your inputs and several constructive discussions you had at the talk pages. It would be easier to follow the talk page discussions, if you sign your entries. Just add three tildes in the end of your message (~~~) to add your user name or four tildes (that's what I prefer) to add user name plus date/time. Thanks! Irpen 05:07, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Ukrainian portal for WP

[edit]

Hi, I was noticing you contributing to Ukraine related articles and I am very glad Ukrainian topics get more constructive editors. Recently, I helped Zscout370 a little bit with maintenance of the Russian Wikiportal he recently created. Browsing around I saw once more how little Ukraine is covered in WP compared to other countries and histories. Of course Russia is much bigger and much more in the news but still, the coverage of Ukrainian topics in WP needs to be expanded dramatically. Based on RU portal I created a draft version of Ukrainian portal at my user space. Please check it out at User:Irpen/uawp. Please do whatever you like with sections, layout, content, etc. In a couple of days I would like to have it exposed to the community, by moving it to Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Ukraine and placing it into a couple of major UA articles, like Ukraine, Ukrainian language, etc, similarly to the link to RU portal placed in Russia article. Hopefully, it will bring more exposure and editors to Ukrainian topics. In the meanwhile, please play with it in your free time. Also, I placed a link there to a warning for editors to be a little timid while still being bold in view of recent cases of, probably good willing, bud a little short-tempered novice editors who roamed in Ukrainian language, Ukraine and Kiev articles with changes of terminology that stirred up the hornet's nest. So I would be grateful for your contribution to the portal, if you have time. Thanks! -Irpen 18:31, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Hi again, pls take a look at Wikipedia:Wikiportal/Ukraine/Ukraine-related Wikipedia notice board -Irpen 04:03, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

Hi again, this article and it's talk page became totally impossible to handle. Again, I feel bad about how some editors commented on your participation there. I can't see how the bias there can be addressed right now so that any non-miniature moderation would stay unreverted. If you feel like doing something there, I will try to help. Otherwise, I plan to leave it to evolve wherever it is going to be steered and wash my hands off for now. Maybe we could improve the History of Christianity article in this case? Regards, -Irpen 00:38, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

I added "Protestanism in Ukraine" section to the History of Ukrainian Christianity article...not sure if it was a right thing to do, since this article's focus is on Orthodox Christianity (if you tape "Ukrainian Orthodox" in wikipedia it even redirects you to this page). Also something should be done about "Distinguishing between church bodies" section. In its current form it is a story of Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC) which is rather marginal in modern Ukraine. I think this section should be replaced by a brief history of Unia vs. Orthodox rivalry and UOC-MP vs. UOC-KP rivalry.

PS: Why didn't you moved your project to Wikiportal/Ukraine ? (Fisenko 04:56, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC))

I will get back on Christianity topics later on. As for the portal, you are right. Michael and I should have moved it by now. There was a little problem with different browsers handling the layout differently but perhaps we should move it anyway if we are not getting to this small-time debugging. I will let you know soon. Cheers, -Irpen 07:32, Jun 15, 2005 (UTC)

I don't feel right now like saying anything at talk:Transnistria 'cause I had enough aggravation when tried to talk normally with some short-tempered editors there, so I thought I leave you a note in case you would like to keep talking there. There are several interesting articles I found in www.zerkalo-nedeli.com archive search. This week's Zerkalo has an article and I thought I search this very respectable paper for more info. Search for "Приднестровье" in the paper's archive gives dozens of articles. Among the first ones I read, these have useful info for the article. There is certainly more if one looks through all search results.

I might return myself trying to edit the article but not within next days because it requires setting aside too much time to respond to Duca's outbursts if I want anything done and not reverted. I won't have time for this in the next days. Regards, Irpen 04:45, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

New articles

[edit]

Dear colleague, don't forget to announce new Russia-related articles here. Best wishes, Ghirlandajo 09:09, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting this one. The article on Petro Doroshenko is also long overdue. --Ghirlandajo 17:43, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vladislav Surkov

[edit]

The original Der Spiegel interview is in their paid archive: http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,361084,00.html , but the Russian translation is available on a trustworthy, non-"yellow" site: http://www.inosmi.ru/translation/220396.html . Should we restore the deleted info with Der Spiegel link added as reference?

You can mention the article info at the end, but I would not change his place of birth and name though, since all the official biographies of Surkov state that he is an ethnic Russian born in Lipetsk region. PS I remember reading one Der Spiegel interview with Surkov on www.inopressa.ru, there was a lot about Surkov's political view and talk about "western conspiracies" trying to undermine Putin, but nothing about him being an ethnic Chechen or being born in Chechnya.Fisenko 02:32, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you're talking about this interview: http://www.inopressa.ru/spiegel/2005/06/20/16:58:17/surkov then it's there: "-У вас тоже есть кавказские корни? - Да, мой отец – чеченец. Первые пять лет своей жизни я провел в Чечне. Как человек, который рос там, я могу сказать: Чеченская республика должна оставаться с Россией. Все остальное можно обсуждать."

I would welcome your attention to this article and its talk. Thanks, --Irpen 06:44, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ivan_Mazepa#The_Mazeppa_Ride by anon: Is this consider historical, or it is an Urban legend or just a hoax invented by whoever anon wrote it? I just never heared of the story which of course does not mean much. --Irpen 05:55, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have never heard this story as well. I'll try to google search it ... Fisenko 06:03, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. I will also try to inquire and let you know if I find any confirmation of this bizzare story. --Irpen 06:05, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cities of Russia

[edit]

While I find your expansion of the articles commendable, I'd like to ask you not to edit Ryazan, Yaroslavl, Suzdal and small historic towns to the north of Moscow. These are part of my to-do list and I have some plans as to their eventual layout. Thanks, Ghirlandajo 09:26, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I wasn't planning to expand historic towns of central Russia anyway. I'll focus on neglected stubs about cities in southern Russia such as Stavropol, Krasnodar etc. as well as Volga-Ural region cities such as Perm,Ufa etc. Fisenko 09:31, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Serbs

[edit]

Hi. Can you tell me why you are changing picture of Serbs? Please see talk page of that article. There was voting for pic, and there is no reason to change it. Best regards, --M. Pokrajac 15:04, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fisenko, I support your image. Perhaps you would consider replacing Mila Jovovic with someone more Serb representative, perhaps an author, like Dositej Obradovic. 65.8.28.24 23:13, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, I'll leave the image up to Serbian Wiki editors. Serbs old image inspired my own for the article about Russians btw. Fisenko 23:15, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

article names for Ukrainian cities

[edit]
Please take a look at the entry I left at talk:Putyvl in response to your message. I hope you will agree. Although this is kyt and kit issue, it is resolvable.

If you are interested to see a detailed discussion on the issue, please check Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ukrainian_subdivisions#How_the_city_name_is_spelled_in_English. Regards, --Irpen 08:38, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think you would be interested in voting here, especially as there are voices that Halibutt is an anti-Russian (Ukrainian, etc.) POV-pusher. --Ghirlandajo 23:30, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mind if I asked what made you think I would be a bad admin? Halibutt 23:15, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. WikiThanks.
Thanks. WikiThanks.
I would like to express my thanks to all the people who took part in my (failed) RfA voting. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! I was also surprised by the amount of people who stated clearly that they do care, be it by voting in for or against my candidacy. That's what Wiki community is about and I'm really pleased to see that it works.
As my RfA voting failed with 71% support, I don't plan to reapply for adminship any more. However, I hope I might still be of some help to the community. Cheers! Halibutt 05:10, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ilya Yefimovich Repin

[edit]

Don't you consider Repin's contribution to Ukrainian culture significant enough to be mwntioned in the article?--AndriyK 17:02, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Aside from Zaporozhian Cossack painting majority of his contributions were clearly to Russian culture. The article already mentions the fact he was born in Ukraine, but I'm not sure it is enough to call him a Ukrainian painter. For example someone like David Burliuk would be a Ukrainian painter, while Taras Shevchenko would be Ukrainian poet, but Mikhail Bulgakov (just like Repin) Ukrainian-born Russian writer.

Fisenko 17:50, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Zaporozhian Cossack painting was not the only his contribution to Ukrainian culture. Repin is indeed different from Bulgakov, who indeed contributed only to Russian culture. Read more about it. Then we discuss. OK? --AndriyK 19:08, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Repin has a lot of paintings to mention him as ukrainian painter. Adv94 09:57, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm rather confused about the format of RfAr page and not sure where and in what form my statement against AndriyK unexplained edits of articles should be. Fisenko 18:40, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I will make a section for your statement, and you can add it then. Please make sure you read the rest. --Irpen 19:18, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Statement_by_party_11_.28User:Fisenko.29 is a section for your statement. Please read the rest of statements first. ArbCom has less to do with content disputes, but it is about the general user behavior. I see no way for him to get away with what was documented and presented by other compliants. Thanks for the recent articles, BTW. Those were long time overdue. --Irpen 19:27, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi and thanks for the article. Could you please check User_talk:Halibutt#Nikifor_Grigoriev? See also Vadim Yakovlev. Besides, since you added yourself to AndriyK's arbcom case, you are entitled to a statement there. OTOH, you are of course under no obligation to make a statement if you prefer so. ArbCom accepted

[edit]

This is the generic message left at several editors' talk pages in relation to the ArbCom case Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration#Community_vs._User:AndriyK. Since the fourth ArbCom member has recently voted to accept the case, the case is now considered accepted by the ArbCom as per Arbitration Policy. Please make sure your statement for the ArbCom is on the page if you are willing to write one (OTOH, being named as a party does not require you to make a statement, it just gives you a right to write one) and please make sure your statement is proofread if you wrote it earlier. Please, also, make sure your statement is in the appropriate place of the ArbCom page and not interjecting with others' statements. You are welcome to read up on the Wikipedia:Arbitration_policy and the associate pages.

Hello, take a look at this. It has no Russian/Lithuanian name, so I was not able to find any data on this outside wiki. I don't see how Moscow, incorrect Russian spellings, Naliboki are relevant to the subject. It seems that the only rationale for this article is the hatred for Soviet partisans. And, of course, the article should be moved to Koniuchy Incident. Finally, we should finally start articles on real massacres of that war, such as Khatyn. --Ghirla | talk 10:10, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Transnistria again

[edit]

The article is now protected, yet again, due to the edit wars. It is now being discussed and the discussion includes several reasonable editors (of course not without the not so reasonable ones, but, hey, that's inevitable). Anyway, I thought I'd let you know because there seems to be worth a try to make it a balanced article at last. --Irpen 20:50, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But please, if you could set aside some time for Transnistria now, I think there is a better chance than ever that something could be done about improving it. Former Duca and Mihaitza (or whoever) reincarnated or are replaced by different fellas, but as I said, several reasonable editors finally got serious about this article too. Please help, if you can. --Irpen 20:59, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With some of you we have edited many articles as a team, with some I had bitter arguments in the past, some of you I consider to be living legends of Wikipedia and some nicks I in my ignorance never heard before. I love you all and I am really grateful to you.

Unspecified source for Image:Bryansk old.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bryansk old.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Please go to Image:Voronezh oldcity.gif and edit that image description page to give the source (URL, if online; ISBN, if scanned from a book; and if you've taken the image yourself, just say so) and the licensing status (the list of image copyright tags might be useful) of this image. All our images should have this information; images without source or license info will be deleted after seven days. Thank you. Lupo 07:15, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:A ovseenko.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:A ovseenko.jpg.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lupo 07:51, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Transnistria

[edit]

Fisenko, you used to be one of the top editors on Transnistria. In fact, you are still listed among the all time top contributors to that page. What happened? We have a lot of newcomers now, on that page. We could use an old-timer with experience in the region and a firm grip on the area's history. Please check out Talk:Transnistria and maybe even some of the most recent archives. - Mauco 07:40, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Russians in Latvia

[edit]

I'm curious why you would state that the identity of "Latvian Russians" apart from Russia emerged only after 1917 when the (predominantly Latvian, but others as well) materials I've been reading indicate a timetable that roughly parallels that of Latvian nationalism, that is, going on at the same time. —Pēters J. [edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bryansk old.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Untagged image

[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Agrarian gerb.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 00:07, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Happy New Year! (Ukrainian: З Новим Роком!, Russian: С Новым Годом!). I wish you in 2007 to be spared of the real life troubles so that you will continue to care about Wikipedia. We will all make it a better encyclopedia! I also wish things here run smoothly enough to have our involvement in Wikipedia space at minimum, so that we can spend more time at Main. --Irpen

Hi: I noticed you started her article, and I wondered if you would be able to help me a tiny bit? I was looking on the site with free MP3s of her music, but (because I can't read cyrillic) I can't figure out which is the song I want. I know it's one of her more popular songs, and it goes (my phonetics are bad, sorry) Slish kom korah te koyvyek, Per zad zi na bit namah, Vielmaros Vielmaros, doz noibel beyoshen dyoz nost. It sounded like it was played on an open tuned Em on acoustic guitar. I vaguely remember the English translation of the title as being something a bit philosophical/epic, like 'This Great Age' or something. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about, lol? If you could give me any guidance as to how to find the MP3 of that particular song on the site I would be forever grateful. I only have the song on a homemade cassette tape, and my walkman died. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Medvedevd 2.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Medvedevd 2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thank you for uploading Image:FamousRUS1.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. |EPO| 16:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Agrarian_gerb.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Agrarian_gerb.gif. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. images

[edit]

I have looked into the images announced as orphaned on your talk page. I have relabelled most of the images as public domain ({{PD-Russia}} or even {{PD-old}}) and wrote a couple of fair use rationale. I have restored the images there I could find their locations. For some of the images I need your help. E.g. I do not know what Namoskvu image is showing. I am not sure ere the Iljin2 image was taken. If it is a Russian photo it is almost certainly PD, but if it is a German one it might be copyrighted. I was not able to write the rationale for Shoigu as he is alive and in the present interpretation of the policy the image is considered replaceable. In short, please look through all the images that are still tagged with deletion templates.

In future please spend a few secs and copy-paste the source of the images. It is often quite usable for the copyright questions. Alex Bakharev 12:29, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Katja budanova.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Katja budanova.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 09:03, 26 June 2007 (UTC). Image:Alexii_II.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Alexii_II.jpg.

Fair use rationale for Image:Afghan-Tajik_border.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Afghan-Tajik_border.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Source book

[edit]

In History of Russians in Estonia, you cite "Kahk J., Palamets H., Vahtre S. "Estee NVS Ajaloost Lisamaterjali VII-VIII Klassi NVS Liidu Ajaloo Kursuse Juurde 7. Trukk" Tallin: "Valgus", 1974". Have you read that book yourself? Digwuren 18:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I did. Why ? Fisenko 18:34, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because the citation is severely misspelt. I thought you might be using quotations from another, possibly badly xerographed copy that would need to be cited also. Digwuren 19:05, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Order kutuzov1.jpg, by Fourdee (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Order kutuzov1.jpg fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

This is not a state symbol it is a photograph of of a medal from unknown origins. To quote the law (from the UNESCO translation) "Derivative works and composite works shall be protected by copyright, regardless of whether the works on which they are based or which they include are objects of copyright." This is a derivative work. A photograph of an object (versus of a 2d image) is a derivative work. For example the blue background is not part of the medal, the lighting is not part of the medal - someone made this photograph and owns the copyright to it.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Order kutuzov1.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 06:37, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Grozny minefield

[edit]

"Shamil Basaev, the legendary maverick, called for the Russian prisoners to be brought forward and forced to walk ahead. But commander Dudaev protested, saying this was cowardly and against the Islamic moral code. After a lengthy argument, much expanded by the various story tellers, Basaev walked ahead in disgust and within metres stepped on a mine that took his foot off. Dudaev took the lead next and was killed a few metres on, then another well-known commander took the relay and was also killed in turn. Well over a hundred fighters apparently died in this minefield by the time they had passed through the cross-fire that then ensued."[1] --HanzoHattori 15:56, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Russian Post

[edit]

You originally started Russian Post back in February 2006 and wrote: "Russian Post is a founding member of the Universal Postal Union created in 1874. In 1802 Chief Postal Service was made part of the Internal Affairs Ministry and in 1917 under the Provisional Government it became part of Ministry of Post and Telegraph." which is still in the article. I wonder if the 1802 date is correct. 1902 would seem to make more sense, but I don't have any sources for this article. Do you? Can you confirm this date. I reply where I post, so will watch your page for a while. Thanks ww2censor 02:58, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Logo spravidlivaya.gif, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD I7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Russavia 22:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Edinoros logo.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Edinoros logo.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Dmitry Medvedev.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dmitry Medvedev.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Kuzma minin.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Kuzma minin.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 03:25, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Sergey mironov.jpg

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Melnyk Andrii.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Melnyk Andrii.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Whilst the above warning is a tad too much in my opinion, I reverted your Syria edit and have place a notice on the talk page here. What we need is a Syrian statement after 26 August which is directly related to the recognition. Whilst we both know Syria supported Russia in the conflict, the article in question is directly related to recognition, and that's what we need sources on. I have search Runet and also some Syria news, but can't find anything as yet, perhaps you can search also, we may be able to include, so long as it addresses directly the issue of recognition. • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Breakbryansk.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:16, 30 December 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 11:16, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for File:Breakbryansk.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Breakbryansk.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Stavropol00.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Stavropol00.jpg.

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Fisenko! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 9 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Thank you for uploading File:Markov sl1917.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. File permission problem with File:Nik nik ml.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nik nik ml.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 07:08, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Masherov pm.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Masherov pm.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 08:01, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Shukhewich.jpg needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Shukhewich.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Fisenko}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:02, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Russians.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:32, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. The file File:2004 10 cvetk.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free image of a painting which is not itself the subject of any sourced critical commentary and is only mentioned by name in the file's caption. The context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is lacking and the usage seems to be purely decorative.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. File source problem with File:Apostol coatofarms.JPG

Thank you for uploading File:Apostol coatofarms.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.
