Counties template

[edit]

First, it's great to see you around again! The number of competent Romanian editors is always tiny, so it's good to have one more back in the ranks. Second, if I may express my disagreement on a point, I don't think we need separate articles on pre-1950 and post-1968 counties, where those share the same name. For one, the borders are often similar: Bihor, Arad, Alba, Hunedoara, Dâmboviţa, Brăila, Iaşi, Tulcea and others look basically the same now as they did then. For another, even where there were significant changes (Cluj, Mureş, Maramureş, Olt, Suceava, etc.), it seems to make more sense to add in another section describing what they looked like in 1859/1925-50 rather than do a whole new article, which would simply add in another layer of needless replication.

In practice, we're already doing something similar with Bessarabia: the articles on Bălţi, Cahul, Orhei, Soroca and Tighina counties cover, or could cover, everything before 1918, up to 1944, and 1998 to 2003, and if the counties are ever brought back, I assume the same articles would cover them as well. What say you? - Biruitorul Talk 16:34, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, the "no Romanian villages" consensus is definitely still alive, at least for the 2 or 3 people who care about it! I've been steadily adding village names into commune articles and redirecting them to the articles. In fact, once I finish Teleorman and do Galaţi, Moldavia and Wallachia will be complete. Now that I've redirected Soloneţu Nou back where it belongs, the remaining village articles are all in Transylvania, so I expect to encounter a bit more resistance there. But feel free to jump ahead of me, or at least to move Zimandköz to Zimandcuz (it's been over 90 years...).
I'm sure you noticed the diacritics mess, which I've highlighted over here. Kotniski has graciously been working on a bot, and I do hope that gets up and running soon, because we do need to restore order at some point.
I must say, I breathed a sigh of relief when Băsescu's mega-counties plan was thwarted, at least for now. First because I think it's absurd—I say to bring back the 1925 counties, perhaps overlaid with Ţinuturi (and, incidentally, I was not the only one to note the fascist inspiration behind the Băsescu proposal)—rather than create a bunch of artificial entities dreamed up one day. And second, because of the absolutely huge task this would have created here. Think: every commune article rewritten and recategorized to reflect the new mega-county, every "people from X county" moved, every map redrawn, etc, etc. If they're not going to bring back the 1925 counties, what Ceauşescu gave us in 1968 isn't perfect, but at least it represents some stability and continuity. - Biruitorul Talk 15:01, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Peris

[edit]

That map (and basically every map with the administrative divisions of Constanta you'll find on the Web) is plainly wrong. The ANCPI messed it up when they drew the new borders in 1989. As a result, everybody (including the County Council) is using a wrong map. This is certainly not the only error on that map (e.g. Agigea is placed inside Techirghiol, Nistoresti inside of Vulturu). Considering Peris was merged with Olteni, and Olteni remained with Independenta after the 1989 reform, I'm 80% sure its territory is still administered by Independenta. The only way to find out exactly would be asking the mayor's office (fortunately they have an e-mail address).Anonimu (talk) 21:07, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if you're sure about it, I have nothing against moving the info about Periş to the Independenţa article. Regards, Mentatus (talk) 10:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nevertheless, for information only, according to the "Great Geographical Dictionary of Romania" (1898), Armutlia was a deserted village in the Hairam-Chioi commune, i.e. Dumbrăveni. Periș was afterwards rebuilt on the ruins of Armutlia. Mentatus (talk) 21:49, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did try contact by e-mail the mayor's office of all the communes in the area. Only Independenta replied, and they said "Cea mai mare parte a terenurilor satelor Peris si Cealmagea apartin comunei Independenta, judetul Constanta. Nu stiu sa va spun care sunt acestea." Not very helpful...Anonimu (talk) 22:32, 20 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another info: in 1931, Periș was part of the Dumbrăveni commune, see here. Mentatus (talk) 21:51, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Macanache requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. rayukk | talk 09:56, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know - I will think about it, and please don't take it personally if I do take it to AfD at some point in the future. I will say that I was traveling and not really paying attention to who wrote the article. Anyway, as a general rule, I would say it's important to provide sufficient quality sources on a musician as soon as possible, simply because there are so many non-notable ones alongside the notable ones. (As opposed to, say, politicians or academics, where the guidelines are more clear-cut.) - Biruitorul Talk 02:25, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accidental rollback, Romanian Gendarmerie

[edit]

Apologies first, but I accidentally rolledbacked your edit on the Romanian Gendarmerie article, (I'm editing on a mobile device and my fat fingers hit the wrong option) I've since rolled back my own rollback.Italic text

The option I wanted was to get to your talk page, to say: its no big deal but since both forces have jurdistiction over the civilian population, "which" would be an appropriate word to use, though perhaps, on second thoughts, phrased as "which have" rather than "which has". I'm thinking of "both have" as an alternative phrasing would that be clearer do you think? Regards.--KTo288 (talk) 11:09, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, no prob. I was also thinking before about using "both" as in "It is one of the two main police forces in Romania (the other being the Romanian Police - a civil force), both having jurisdiction over the civilian population." What do you think? Best regards, Mentatus (talk) 11:21, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would be perfect.--KTo288 (talk) 13:40, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Cheers, Mentatus (talk) 13:45, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

March Madness 2017

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Văitoianu

[edit]

Hi, here's what I could find:

  • His remains are - or were - at Mărăști.
  • The Bellu thing is strange, so I'm inclined to take the inscription at face value - i.e., it's just the family (wife, children) there, while the general himself is at Mărăști.
  • It seems the Sighet story comes from this guy's memoir - not the most reliable reference. At any rate, there seems to be no record he was arrested/imprisoned.

Good luck. - Biruitorul Talk 15:27, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Re: Mircea Badea

[edit]

The paragraph was libelous, he is seen by some, who? as an ardent supporter of PSD. Also the article's about Mircea Badea, not Dan Voiculescu. --Vlad|-> 15:13, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking precisely to the article history, in order to see who added the paragraph. I could see we both helped the article during the past, for instance: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mircea_Badea&diff=next&oldid=597506475
You do agree that the paragraph is hearsay, weasel words, seems like whatever stuff he's libelled by Romanian propaganda and bluntly translated to English. --Vlad|-> 15:24, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've finally found it: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mircea_Badea&diff=next&oldid=819669831 it has been added by this user and from the tone and the content I clearly notice the bias. --Vlad|-> 15:29, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, once the dirt was there, anonymous users would happily enhance it: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mircea_Badea&diff=next&oldid=845405315 --Vlad|-> 15:31, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Someone already tried to alleviate the tone before: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mircea_Badea&diff=next&oldid=858598437 but I'm convinced it hasn't been added in good faith. --Vlad|-> 15:32, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And finally, the user that added the paragraph came back and added it again twice. --Vlad|-> 15:33, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO you perfectly summarized the last 4 years. Thanks for letting me know! --Vlad|-> 19:50, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Transylvanian Romanians

[edit]

Hi there. Would you be interested in discussing this category, its subcategories, and its Banat correspondent(s) to approximate some renaming that would more accurately reflect the intention? As we stand, there is nothing in that category that would prevent it holding anyone from John Hunyadi and Olahus to Gheorghe Funar, Nicolae Furdui Iancu and Sabin Gherman. Off-hand, I would propose splits along the lines of more tangible and chronologically localized political entities (as in: Category:Romanians in the Voivodeship of Transylvania, Category:Romanians in the Principality of Transylvania, Category:Romanians in the Banat of Temeschwar, Category:Romanians in the Hungarian Banat (1867–1918) etc. etc.), and if we keep the supracts you created we use them as holders of those categories. I welcome any input, troubleshooting, and advice. Dahn (talk) 21:54, 14 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dahn, what you suggest above makes sense, I'll be glad to help. Mentatus (talk) 07:32, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how would you feel about renaming the categories along the lines of: "in pre-1918 Transylvania/Banat"? That would cover all jurisdictions (not just Austro-Hungarian) and would prevent the addition of modern-day people from Transylvania/Banat, who I suppose aren't really meant to be included. Corruption in Romania

[edit]

Hi! I just found the comparison unnecessary. But I stopped reverting if you really kept so much to place it. Regards, Christina

Hi Christina, please try not to interpret mere facts emotionally (see WP:NPOV), my purpose was not to tarnish Romania's reputation (the politicians has taken care of that already). I am glad we were able to reach an agreement. Regards, Mentatus (talk) 12:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your assessment request for Gheorghe Pop de Băsești--Consider GA nom

[edit]

Hello, I have been going through the backlog of assessment requests at WP:BIO, and I found your request. I assessed it at a B, and I actually think that it may be worth a GA nomination. I really don't have an interest in that article besides fulfilling your request, so I thought I would leave it to you. Whether or not it's a "Good Article" just yet, it's a damn good article and you should be proud of it. Anyway, give it a thought. Happy editing! Prometheus720 (talk) 15:36, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Mentatus. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Dobruja Campaign".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Hi, MSClaudiu, please have a look at your link, article 73, paragraph 1, part A, points i) and j) were updated by the OUG No. 89/2003: "i) general-locotenent - chestor-șef de poliție; j) general - chestor general de poliție.". I hope this answers your question. Mentatus (talk) 12:11, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Historical affiliations

[edit]

Hi. A couple of observations on these, if I may:

  • 1) Four Romanian flags in succession (kingdom, two communist republics, post-1989) strikes me as overkill. Yes, there were different regimes, but it was the same country under international law. Personally, I would just put the current flag and call it Romania.
  • 2) Regarding Cluj (and most cities in Transylvania), this is somewhat tricky, because for example we don’t want to mislead readers into thinking it was effectively part of the Hungarian Soviet Republic. My suggestion would be some deliberate ambiguity about just which Hungary was theoretically in charge:

 Austria-Hungary 1867–1918 (de jure Hungary until 1920)
Kingdom of Romania 1920–1940 (de facto from 1918)

What say you? - Biruitorul Talk 01:14, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Biruitorul,
  1. OK, your argument makes sense, it's not worth listing all the regimes representing the same country under international law.
  2. I fully agree - listing all the statal entities who claimed de jure the respective cities is an overkill and doesn't provide for clarity.
I'll rework all these changes accordingly. Thanks a lot for the sensible suggestions, it's always a pleasure talking to you! Mentatus (talk) 06:51, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
